Romancing with Sandra Dailey

Hello Sandra and welcome back to my blog as the first return interview. So tell us what drew you as a writer to the romance genre?

Romance has so many sub-genres and cross-genres now. Anything you can imagine will fit in somewhere. The greatest thing about romance in general is providing an escape for today’s hard working woman. An ebook or paperback is cheap compared to a real vacation. When I was a young single mom a vacation was out of the question. A good book was all that kept me sane some days.

True, reading is a very safe way to escape nowadays. What is the best part of writing a love story?

Everyone dreams of that one great romance. I get to live one, (vicariously), in each story I write. It’s the greatest job in the world.

I have to agree that writing a romance is very satisfying work. Is writing the synopsis easy for you? Tell us about the process.

It depends on the publisher’s guidelines for length, but I generally need 2 ½ pages for every hundred pages in the book. I never write a synopsis until the book is finished. I make an outline of each chapter, and then turn it into story form. Still, a synopsis is never easy.

Yes, synopsis should be a four-letter word. What comes first to you, the characters or the story?

For me, it’s the story. I get most of my ideas from songs. Not just one song, but a few combined. I love music.

Is there anything new you’ve learned since your first book?

I’ve learned that my most important support system is other writer’s. Network early and pay attention. Even the most seasoned authors are generous with advice, instruction, and encouragement. It’s a great community.

I’m very glad to be a part of a fantastic writing community. Tell us about what you’re working on now.

My next book will be a love triangle between a woman and two brothers. One brother is the easy going, carefree man she’s been infatuated with for years. The other brother is the serious, hardworking man who has to come between them or lose everything. I call it my ‘Sabrina’ story, but much different than the original.

Lacey Carlyle has worked for years to create the perfect blend of home, business and family. Now she risks losing everything when the land she farms is bought by the man who abandoned her thirteen years ago.
Alex has never understood why Lacey walked away from him. Now, he holds the deed to her farm and intends to make her pay. The only problem - two kids weren't part of the plan.
Jenna and Jerrod may not see eye-to-eye but they are both determined to find happiness for their mom and keep their home safe.
Can Lacey and Alex put their pasts behind them and embrace a future together?
