~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-->
Jack stood behind his desk, replacing the phone handset. His head snapped up. Shock, anger, and something she couldn’t define washed over his features. Ms. Crofton had been super quick with her emergency alert. Good for her. But Lisa had been faster.
She stopped in the middle of the room, her heart pounding. Jack’s features seemed to blur. You can’t faint now. She blinked hard, and refocused. He still looked pissed off. Without the scowl he would be as handsome as ever. Chestnut hair fell across his creased forehead, and his golden brown eyes widened, then narrowed.
            “Mr. Barron.” Lisa strode toward the huge mahogany desk, her hand outstretched. They’d made love on that desk. A wave of heat filled her as an avalanche of memories flashed by like the stock market tickertape. “I do appreciate you agreeing to see me. I won’t need much of your time—”
            “I didn’t,” he said.
            Lisa met his gaze. “Didn’t what?” she asked, feigning innocence, while holding the leather portfolio in a death grip. A tick in one side of his jaw jumped. She was certain he’d mashed down on his molars.
“Agree to see you. I could have security throw you out.” His voice was deep, almost a growl. Then he bounded from behind the desk like a wild animal, and stopped short only a foot from her.
She begged her knees not to crumple. “Oh, dear. An honest mistake.”
            “Yeah, right.” He flicked his eyebrows skyward. “What do you want?”
A Woman of Love by Marlow Kelly
When her dissolute husband insists that Lady Annabel Peters bed one of his villainous cohorts to repay a gambling debt, she is scandalized. But she is forced to agree because he controls every aspect of her life.
A physically and emotionally crippled war hero, James Drake has retreated from society. At the request of his brother, he manipulates events so he can interrogate Annabel, a woman he thinks may be part of a ring of thieves.
Neither of them count on an instant and overwhelming attraction. James may now believe Annabel but she suspects her husband plans to kill her. As one of her husband’s friends, James is not to be trusted.
Yet how can she escape a man who has the ability to control her with a gentle kiss?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt

Lady Annabel Peters sat in the open-top carriage and realized she had left it too late. She should have escaped yesterday.

“Really, Annabel, I don’t want you to give your left eye. All I’m asking is that you go in there and do what comes naturally.” Lord Elliott Peters, her husband of two months, sat opposite her, smoothing his waistcoat against his flat, toned abdomen. A lock of blond hair fell across his brow, accentuating his startling blue eyes. He claimed all he had to do was crook his finger, and besotted society women swooned, but she couldn’t imagine it. His grotesque personality obliterated any physical beauty he possessed.

The warm summer breeze touched her face. She inhaled the scent of grass and honeysuckle. Frogs sang somewhere in the distance, and crickets chirped, a sure sign it was going to be a warm night. She looked out at the passing Berkshire countryside, and wondered how anything this ugly could happen on such a perfect summer evening.

“It is not natural for a married woman to bed a man who is not her husband.” She struggled to breathe; a vise tightened around her chest.

“You must be joking. Women do it all the time. That’s how they entertain themselves. You didn’t believe we would be faithful to each other for the rest of our lives, did you? What a ridiculous notion.”

The thought of copulating with Elliott was horrific enough. Now he wanted her to sleep with his friends, too. Bile rose in her throat at the idea of having to endure another man like her husband. He was totally amoral, and thought nothing of sleeping with a friend’s wife. He undoubtedly took pleasure in it. He never controlled his lust. If he saw a woman he wanted, he took her by any means possible.

New Release

When Sinclair Darling, the Earl of Chilton, is suddenly tricked into marrying, he’s beyond furious, even though the girl is known as the Incomparable Queen of the ton because of her beauty. Taken aback by his new wife's spoiled behavior and seeming coldhearted selfishness, Sin desperately tries to hide that he's not the unwilling husband she thinks him to be — he has admired her from afar for years.
In the eyes of polite society, Lady Charmaine de Vere has it all—beauty, wit, and now marriage to the heir of one of the wealthiest dukedoms in England. But behind the shiny exterior a dark secret lurks, a secret she would do anything to save her sister from--even sacrifice her one chance for marital bliss.

EXCERPT:
“I’m not angry,” he repeated hoarsely. “Only disappointed.”
“Disappointed?” She stared at him in confusion. “Why are you disappointed with me?”
“Because you are not what I thought you were.”
His strange admission made her frown. “What was I supposed to be, then? As beautiful on the inside as I am on the outside?”
He had at least the decency to blush.
“Something like that.”
She wanted to laugh hysterically. When had her life become this twisted? As ever, it was her bloody looks creating the problem. First Lord Nester, possessively estranging her from everyone else. And now her husband who didn’t want her, as she didn’t live up to his high expectations.
“I’m sorry,” she choked, tears filling her eyes.
He made a painful grimace. “Don’t be. It’s not your fault.”
“Then why do you keep telling me it is?”
“Why? Because you were the one who made this marriage happen, not I. You were the one telling me you didn’t even care if it was me you married. Of course I think it’s your fault. If I’d had any choice I would never have married a woman claiming she doesn’t care if I am the one who is her husband.”
His jaw twitched harder and harder for every harsh word he spoke, until his whole face was hard as stone and just as cold. All his earlier embarrassment was long gone, and she knew she had to get away from him before she started to cry.
Because every word he said was true.

Excerpt ~
“I thought you said you were here to buy slaves?” The man spoke crisply, with a high nasally voice. He was not exactly the type of man Darius had imagined the slave trader would be. Zavca Moore stood about five-foot-four, was nearly completely bald, and wore thin, gold-rimmed glasses. Still, something in the glint of his cold steel-blue eyes and tightly drawn mouth told the story of a man used to being ruthless. He now ran his eyes over Maggie, quirking an eyebrow.
“I am not a slave. I—” Maggie flinched as Orion raised his hand to hit her. Darius grabbed his wrist in midair with a loud snap. He glared at Orion, setting his teeth. He glanced around and relaxed the muscles in his face and shoulders, releasing his grip.
“Not in front of our host, Gorga,” he told Orion imperiously, turning to give Zavca a smile. Noting he was still staring at Maggie, Darius explained. “Oh, she—well let’s just say…” He took Zavca by the elbow and steered him away to speak confidentially. “…she’s a little tiresome. Beautiful, yes,” he said looking back at her, “but tiresome. Gorga can’t seem to tame her tongue no matter what he does. And believe me, he’s done his best.” Darius chuckled. “I was wondering if you might consider taking her in trade. I’ll pay good money for the rest, I assure you. I want to get her off my hands and find myself some new beauties, if you know what I mean.” He elbowed Zavca, playing up his spoiled rich man’s role to the hilt.
“Yes, well, I believe I could get a fair price for her. And Mic here hasn’t met a slave he couldn’t subdue somehow or other, right Mic?” The Neanderthal beside him showed a toothless grin, rubbing his hugely muscled arms forebodingly. Maggie shivered. “Take her to my room. I’ll be in shortly.”
