Romancing with Sandra Dailey

This week my featured writer is Sandra Dailey, author of The Chief's Proposal.
Welcome Sandra!

What draws you as a reader to the romance genre?

There are many reasons why I read romance. The thing I love most is the HEA. No matter what is happening in our own lives, it gives us hope for a pleasing outcome. It shows us that taking a risk and reaching for our dreams is the only way we'll achieve them.

What is the most difficult part of writing a love story?

I guess that would be the male POV. Although I know that most of my readers are women, I've heard from several men as well. I don't want to just write what women want their men to say and feel. It has to be realistic. My husband tells me that what a man says and what he thinks are two different things. They display their feelings through actions more than words. I let them perform sweet gestures, but a lot of the emotion comes through inner dialogue...until their back is against the wall.

Is creating a book title easy for you? Tell us about the process.

I'm terrible with titles. I'll come up with something to identify it in my computer and use for submission, but my editor is much better at it than I am, thank goodness.

Do your characters love the direction you take for them or do they have other ideas?

My characters know what kind of story I want for them. They constantly follow me around with great scene ideas. I just wish they could give them to me in order.

Any tips for writers that you'd love to share?

My mind is on promo right now. I have a new book coming out soon. Remember when promoting, don't hit your friends and family over the head with it. Do count on your community for support.
I send a flier out to all newspapers, television and radio stations within 50 miles. I call all the libraries and book stores. I inquire about book clubs, women's clubs and writing classes. When you schedule interviews, speaking engagements, etc...bring something to hand out.

Tell us about your next book.

'Twice the Trouble' will be out soon through The Wild Rose Press. I guess you could say it's a reunion story. Each of my main characters feel they were betrayed years ago by the other, but the attraction between them is stronger than ever. Another thing between them are two willful and mischievous kids.

Ginny Dearing has finally realized her goal of teaching, but finding a position is proving impossible. After exhausting all possibilities, an Internet ad is her only hope. In a small town hundreds of miles away there is a job with one huge string attached...a husband. Burned by love once, Brett Silverfeather finds his bachelor life more than satisfying. He's facing re-election for sheriff, but this time the voters are looking for a family man. Brett finds himself pursuing a marriage he doesn't want.  Ginny and Brett are opposite in every way, but opposites do attract. Can Brett protect his heart as well as he does his town? Can Ginny hide a secret past that could possibly destroy her future?

Many thanks to Sandra for sharing with us and to you for stopping by!
